How many times have we said to ourselves “I’m gonna start exercising this year;” OR “I’m gonna start a business this year;” OR “I’m gonna clean out the attic this spring;” OR “I’m gonna take a class this year?” OR “I’m gonna…” –well, I think you get the picture.

“I’m gonna ___”, I’m gonna ___”, I’m gonna ___” is the trap that catches us every year!  And even though we have the best intentions, we somehow get sidetracked into putting them off until a later date.  Each new year, we reset our resolutions to do what we promised ourselves we’d do the previous year– and to top that off, we add our current year’s resolutions to them, believing that we’ll meet the challenge for all of them.

With all the things that we have to do in life, it’s frustrating trying to find a balance that supports our lifestyle.  When we’re held up at the office, busy with family, and involved in 1-million-and-1 different community projects– it’s no wonder why we never get around to carrying out our resolutions!

So here we are again, in the new year, with old resolutions and new goals to carry out.  What will we do differently this year to make sure we meet our goals this time?  How will we choose to deal with the escalating demands of our families, our jobs, and life in general?  Will we finally make the necessary sacrifices to get it done, or will we allow the pressures of life to overwhelm us once again, and keep us from reaching our goals?

If we truly want to meet our goals this year, we will need to reconsider our priorities and get rid of the unnecessary things that only add more stress to our lives.  So if that means cutting off old people, places, and things, then so be it!  More importantly, we need to understand that it’s “OK” TO SAY NO!  We must strive for a better balance, and learn to savor, enjoy, and slow down long enough to focus on things that are of greater importance (family, friends, peace of mind, and proper rest).

So, I ask you the question:  What goal(s) will you carry out this year, and what will you do differently to reach them?
